Wait for my PhD thesis to be complete ;o) There is NO measurable difference in formation between distance and on-campus students however the latter have an advantage in terms of stewardship and hospitality behaviours, at least according to my quantitative work using Thayer&#039;s CSPP instrument. Too much to comment on in this small space, suffice to say that your colleagues represent a sad tradition that has no empirical basis! What you talk about in terms of &#039;presence&#039; is similar to the phenomenon of &#039;transactional distance&#039;, proposed by Michael Moore (of DE fame) in the 1980s. 

Just let me finish that PhD...
