Lachish: the well shaft

The well dates from level IV (Rehoboam?), it was 44m deep. The Nahal Lachish (Wadi Ghafr) only containing water after rain, and the "great shaft" having been probably not a half-finished water system (rather a quarry - perhaps for the counter ramp during the Assyrian siege), this well is claimed to have been the main water source for the city.
